Spring Equinox, Composterama starring the Red Wigglers!

The Spring Equinox is the beginning of spring when light and dark are in perfect balance.  It has been a cold spring on Lucky Farm so far with a late snowfall, but the red wigglers in the compost bin have been busy doing their work even in the snow.  Shortly after we moved to Lucky Farm, we quickly built a compost bin out of used pallets.  This was easy because we had built about a dozen of these at our old place.  We continue to receive extra compost from the Sointula Oceanfront Hotel - thanks Robin!

We screen the compost into a wheelbarrow, leaving behind bigger chunks to continue composting over the summer.

All of the 24 newly-planted fruit trees get a healthy dose of compost.  Note the happy orange cat Wilma in the background orchard.

We also put compost on the garlic  that has been growing all winter.

We continue to expand the garden using cardboard covered with dirt.  Before planting season starts, we hope to have a total of 10 beds ready.  We will also be getting fresh sheep manure from our neighbour's farm to lay on the beds.
